  • The Begining of...

    American Indian Movement- primary Indians that had confrontation with the US government to gain civil rights. This group of Indians believed that the tribal governments that were organized under the IRA in 1934 were not the traditional Indian way.
  • Founding

    The American Indian Movement was founded in Minneapolis by Dennis Banks, Clyde Bellecourt, Eddie Benton Banai and Georgee Mitchell.
  • Claims

    The Native Nation took a caravan of representatives to Washington, DC (the place wehre dealings with Indians have taken place since 1849) to put claims directly before the president.
  • Massacre

    200 Sioux, led by AIM, took over a tiny vilage of Wonded Knee, South Dakota, the site of the last great massacre of Native Amerians by th U.S. calvary.
  • Meeting

    AIM met with UN in Geneva, Switzerland that resulted being called the International Treaty Conference.
