Pittsburgh Steelers

  • The Steelers are born!

The Pittsburgh Pirates make their NFL debut with a frightening 23-2 loss versus the New York Giants. Their first season record is 3 wins, 6 losses, and 2 ties. Otherwise knows as 3-6-2. Luckily, their coach is replaced.
  • Not looking good.

Having already replaced their coach three times you would think that they would catch a break, and they do.... kind of. They start out great winning their first three games and eventaully going to 6-3 but, when it really mattered that they won, they lost three times in a row. Just barely missing the oppurtunity to play in the championship.
  • Big money!

The steelers make history by signing running back Byron "Whizzer" White, the first "big money" player, for about $16,000. However, the average NFL players salary in 2009 was a little over $3,000,000 and the most payed player was being payed about $16.6 million dollars! Poor Byron "Whizzer" White.
  • New look!

After 7 years of struggle Art Rooney, the owner of the Pittsburgh pirates, decides to change the name to give them a new identity. At that time Pittsburgh was a mass producer of steel, so he decided to name them the Pittsburgh Steelers. They still stink, and go 2-7-2.
  • Not too shabby.

The Steelers start off bad losing their first two games. Fortunately, they havea great rookie running back named Bill Dudley who leads them to go 7-4. Their first winning season ever!
  • WWII

WWII has affected the Steelers for the last two years due to everybody having to serve. During this time the Steelers merge with two different teams. They merged with the Philadelphia Eagles to play as the Steagles and go 5-4-1. However, when they merged with the Chicago Cardinals they lost all ten games and basically just got stomped on the entire time. Luckily, in 1945, WWII is wrapping up and the teams go back to normal.
  • A little hope.

The Steelers get their first taste of the play-offs with their super star, Bill Dudley, leading the way. But, they get stomped by the familiar Philadelphia Eagles 21-0. They have a decent season overall going 8-5.
  • Ouch.

The Steelers have a losing drought where they just lost season after season from1948-1957. Despite mulitple coaching changes nothing could have helped The Pittsburgh Steelers win.
  • An opportunity lost.

The Pittsburgh owner, Art Rooney, uses a 20th round draft pick to get Johney Unitas, just because he wants to draft somebody that is originally born in Pittsburgh. He never gives Unitas any time in practice to show the coach what he can do. The Steelers cut him and a few years later he is signed on to the Baltimore Colts. Johney Unitas is now known as one of the greatest most famous quarterbacks in history. The steelers could have used that too because they continue on with their losing seasons.
  • Good news... finally.

The Steelers make a deal with the Detroit Lions and receive a quarterback that is just coming off a championship victory. Bobby Layne is his name and he leads Pittsburgh to a 7-4-1 record.
  • 60's!

The steelers swing into the 60's looking as inconsistent as ever going 5-6-1.
  • Fancy!

The Steelers are one of the last teams to add an insignia to their helmet. They put a steelmark, which was used by the company U.S. Steel. It seems to work out for them because they have a solid year, going 9-5.
  • Need a Quarterback bad.

Steelers lose quarterback Bobby Layne and are on an immediate quarterback sramble. Since Quarterbacks are the most important man on the field, they need to find one fast!
  • PROBABLY not a POSSIBLE hope that MIGHT be good.

The Steelers have five losing seasons in a row thanks to terrible quarterbacking and defensive failure. However, Steelers sign a new coach, who has some real potential, named Chuck Noll.
  • Defense!

Chuck Noll's first move is to completly renew the Pittsburgh defense. WIth the first pick in the draft he picks a player named "Mean" Joe Greene. The Steelers would have a terrible year going 1-13. However, "Mean" Joe Greene is the defensive rookie player of the year.
  • Recruiting.

The Steelers have only been to one playoff game in their near forty years of existance. With their first pick in the draft they got a quarterback named Terry Bradshaw, he is hated by everybody and the media thought that the Steelers had picked up another dud and called Bradshaw a "dumb hick".
  • Good Year.

Pittsburgh would draft a running back named Franco Harris who is a stud. Terry Bradshaw has one off year and after that he is playing like a champ. "Mean" Joe Greene is mean as ever and tackling players by the second. You would think that after all those years of failure and all these things looking good for them they would at least have a good season in their somewhere or at least a good play every now and then! Well, the Steelers had a great 39th season! Going 11-3 and winning a playoff game!
  • The Immaculate Reception

The Steelers were playing the Raiders. It was a close game but, the raiders were ahead, 7-6, with 1:13 left to play in the game. Terry Bradshaw was about to get smashed when he threw the ball into the air. If this play wasn't a success they would lose. Two players collided in mid-air and launched the ball skyward. Franco Harris was sprinting after it and when the ball was about 3 inches from the ground he scooped it and ran for a touchdown. The Steelers had won! Thats a famous play to this day!
  • The Steel Curtain.

The Steelers have on of their greatest drafts in history by finishing their steel curtain. The steel curtain was the nickname that people gave the Pittsburgh defense because it was so good. It was based on four players and "mean" Joe Greene was leading the way. They also picked up two receivers that were superstars. The steelers were looking good.
  • Super Bowl IX

The Steelers make it to their very first Super Bowl! They are playing the Minnesota Vikings. The defense was one of the fastest hardest hitting ones ever assembled. The only points the vikings scored was when they blocked a punt and recoverd it in the endzone. Also, the curtain got a safety! Safeties are very rare and take real defensive skill for it to happen. The Steelers end up winning 16-6!
  • Super Bowl X

Back-to-back super bowl appearences. Amazing! This time they were up against the Dallas Cowboys. The Steelers defense wasnt as good as expected. Heading into the 4th quarter the score was 10-7 and Dallas was winning. The Steelers took the league with a field goal and then Bradshaw hit Lynn Swann for a 64 yard touchdown pass. Dallas would answer by scoring a Touchdown of their own making the score 21-17. However, the Steelers defense prevailed and didn't let them score again.Super Bowl Number 2!
  • Super Bowl XIII

It took awhile longer but, it was worth the wait! The steelers are back in the Super bowl. The Steelers were now a passing threat rather than running. The Steelers were up agains Dallas Cowboys, Again! The score was 35-17 with the Steelers ahead but, the Cowboys gave it their all and were back in the game by scoring two touchdowns in a row. The Steelers defense really just dominated after that and the final score was 35-31. Pittsburgh becomes the first team to win three Super Bowls!
  • Super Bowl XIV

The Steelers, once again, are in the Super Bowl! This time playing the L.A. Rams. They were projected to win big. Going into the 4th quarter however, they found themselves losing 19-17. The Steelers finally snapped back into it when Terry Bradshaw completed a 73 yard touchdown pass toJohn Stallworth. The Steel curtain would basically dominate the Rams for the rest and the Steelers would score one more late touchdown. Winning their fourth Super Bowl 31-19, Terry Bradshaw is named MVP!
  • 80's!

The Steelers rock into the 80's looking as good as they ever have. They are leading the whole NFL in Super bowls. They also have a great quarterback, a solid running back, and a pair of dynamic recievers named John Stallworth and Lynn Swann. Not to mention, the greatest defense ever established, The Steel Curtain! They don't get in the Super bowl but, they make it to the playoffs and have a winning year at 9-7.
  • Good while it lasted.

The Steelers are not looking too good anymore. All their past greats have moved on except for a couple. Pittsburgh unfortunately goes 6-10 and things are looking down.
  • *sniffle*

    *sniffle*
Owner Art Rooney dies. He owned the team from the start of 1933. He owned them for the first forty years of shame and losing. But, he also had them for their 15 years of fame, glory and 4 super bowls, when they could not be beaten. He passes the team down to his son, Dan Rooney.
  • A new era.

A new era begins as the Steelers four time super bowl winning coach,Chuck Noll, retires. Bill Cowher takes his spot. Bill Cowher is known to never crack a smile. Hes always mean. But, the players get used to it and they soon understand that for Cowher a slight grin is a small party of approval. They start the year off good and end up going 11-5
  • Super Bowl XXX

The Steelers make it back for another Super Bowl. They are once again playing The Dallas Cowboys. They really are lucky they made it because they are back to sending random rookies to play and they seem to be doing good. The Super Bowl However, does not look good. Heading into 4th quarter the Steelers find themselves losing 20-7. The Steelers get back in it and make the game 20-17. The Steeler defense does good and stops them but the offense simply cant do it. They lose their first super Bowl!
  • Recruit!

The Steelers are taking their time, one season after another, drafting players who might make or break them. Along the way they pick up a man named Jerome "the bus" Bettis. He is solid. Also, they now have a quarterback in player Kordell Stewart. They end up going 6-10.
  • Whoo!

The steelers partied like it was 1999 but, now it was time to get to business. They end up going only 9-7 but, Kordell Stewert, their new quarterback is starting to show some promise.
  • New quarterback!

The Steelers quarterback had not been doing great and on top of that he just got an elbow injury. So, the Steelers decided to start Ben Roethliberger. The Steelers have one of their best years ever and they were undefeated but, their came a game that they had to win to go on to the Super Bowl and they unfortunately lost. On the bright side though, "Big" Ben Roethlisberger was looking good and could easily be the future of the Steelers. Also, Jerome Bettis is doing as good as ever.
  • Super Bowl XL

Finally! The Steelers are back! This time the Steelers are facing the Seattle Seahawks. With a good passing game running back and defense Pittsburgh was looking good. The score was 7-3 in the 3rd quarter when Steelers running back broke free for a 75 yard touchdown run! But, Seattle Struck right back they scored, making the score 14-10 with pittsbigh on top. The Steelers score one more time and they win their fifthSuper Bowl!
  • Super Bowl XLIII

The Steelers were back again. They are now facing the Arizona Cardinals. Arizona was about to score in the 2nd quarter when James Harrison intercepted it and ran 100 yards for a touchdown. The Cardinals were still up by 3 and the Steelers were 88 yards away from their touchdown with about 2 minutes left. But, "Big" Ben set up a great drive and a few good plays that got them 6 yards away! With 35 seconds left he threw a pass that weaved through 3 defenders and into Holmes hands. They won!
  • Present day.

    Present day.
The Steelers have won more Super bowls than any other team with 6. Their coach is Mike Tomlin and he's the one that won Super bowl XLIII. Dan Rooney still owns the Steelers. The Steelers started their 2010 season 1-0! Hopefully, they can win another Super bowl!
