Description- The women of Troy offer clothes to the war goddess Athene. Significance- The people of Troy are getting desperate.

Description- The Trojans hire Dolon the Wolfman to spy on the Greeks to find our their plans. Significance- They are willing to do anything to defeat the Greeks.

Description- Odysseus and Diomede find Dolon sneaking around in the woods and capture him. They force him to tell what the Trojans are planning and where Rhesus the Thracian king is. Then they kill him. Significance- They have to kill Rhesus or else they will be greatly outnumbered.

Description- Oddyseus and Diomede steal Rhesus' horses an murder him in his sleep. Significance- They are practiacally identical to the horses of Achilles. So Oddyseus and Diomede wanted them for a prize.

Description- In this scene, Hector, the Trojan hero, admits to his wife Andromache that he expects to die in war. He wants her to pray not only for him, but for Troy. Significance- This shows how easily war can destroy someone's life.

Description- Achilles sends his friend Patroclus into battle wearing his own armor. Hector, thinking that Patroclus is really Achilles, kills Patroclus in an effort to save Troy. Significance- Achilles thinks that it was partly his own fault that Patroclus died, and wants to get revenge to honor his friend.

Description- When Achilles' mother Thetis sees how sad he is about the death of Patroclus, she decides to help him and get Hephaistos, the god of fire, to make Achilles brilliant, new armor. Significance- This shows how much Thetis cares for Achilles and how much power Achilles has this way.

Description- The Trojans invade the Greek camp and burn one of their ships. The best Greek heroes have all been wounded. All except Achilles who refuses to fight for King Agamemnon. Description- Achilles organizes funeral games in honor of Patroclus, including a footrace, wrestling, and a chariot race. The prizes are Patroclus' possessions so that everyone will remember him. Significance- Getting revenge against Hector did not ease the pain, so Achilles tries to find another way to honor Patroclus.

Description- Zeus sends a message to King Priam of Troy that he should go and ransom for the body of his son Hector. Priam goes into the canp of the Greeks and does as he is told. When he comes to Achilles, Achilles understands his pain and returns the body. Significance- Achilles realizes that revenge does not bring back the dead.

Description- For the revenge of Patroclus' death, Achilles goes into battle looking for Hector. He chases him around the walls of Troy three times before Hector stops running and attempts to bargain with him. But Achilles will not listen and kills him. Significance- The death of Hector means little hope for the Trojans.

Description- After Achilles kills Hector, he ties the body to the back of his chariot and drags it across the ground. Significance- Achilles is trying to get rid of the pain that Patroclus' death has caused him.

Description- The title of Trojan leader is still unclaimed. Memnon, an Ethiopian from the edge of the world, comes to help Troy. He goes up against Achilles himself, and almost wins, except that the Fates had already decided that he should die. Significance- Everyone wants the glory that comes with war, and are willing to risk everything for it.

Description- Achilles breaks through the gates of Troy and would have taken it had it not been for the god Phoebus Apollo who convinced Paris to take a shot with his bow at Achilles. Paris' arrow falls low and hits Achilles in the heel, the only weak part Achilles has. The poison spreads through him, and Achilles falls. Significance- Achilles' death is the death of the greatest hero of Greece.

Description- After Hector dies, the Trojans no longer have a strong leader. The queen of the Amazons comes to Troy and claims tht she will lead them into battle. When she does, Achilles puts a spear through her and her horse. Significance- Achilles sees that she is beautiful and thinks about what a pitty it is that glory always has to be bought with death.
