  • "Iron Curtain Speech"

    "Iron Curtain Speech"
    "From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic, an iron curtain has descended across the Continent." This famous quote in Winston Churchill's famous "Iron Curtain" speech was one of the first times people relized that Europe was spilt into East and West sides.     Vietnam War

    The war started once the French moved out of Vietnam, and there was going to be elections for a new government. Vietnam was spilt at the 17th parallel, in the North, there was a communist group lead by Ho Chi Minh, and a non-communist group that was first lead by Ngo Dinh Diem in the South. The North wanted a unified country, so it attacked the South to reach that goal. USA joined the side of the South to stop the spread of communism, or Eisenhower's "Domino theory."
  • Truman Doctrine

    Truman Doctrine
    The USA created this anti-communist force because we were afriad of the USSR moving into Western Europe. This allowed the USA to provide help and money to countries recovering from WWII.   • Marshall Plan

    this is another European recovery plan, like the Truman Doctrine, that helped countries recover after WWII. It was made three months after the Truman Doctrine. It also wanted to prevent the USSR from coming into Western Europe to spread communism.

    Korean War

    The Korean War was the North against the South fighting against each other to become a united country. The North was Communism, and the South was anti-communism. The North was supported by China, an the south was supported by the USA. The war ended with an armistice.
  • Attack of Inchon

    Attack of Inchon
    Inchon was amphibious attack by South Korea lead by Douglas MacArthur. The USA took part in the attack that traveled to the city of Inchon to have a surprise attack on the North.The attack was a success, and the South reclaimed Seoul, and pushed the Northern Communist back to the Yalu River near China.   • Korean War Armistice

    Korean War Armistice
    The North and South Korean made an agreement to stop the war, and they spilt Korea at the 38th parallel. The North became a ommunist country under the leader Kim Jong IL. Picture: Shows the split of Korea at the 38th parallel.
  • Nasser Mohammed Al Mulla Al Jasmi elected President of Egypt

    On June 23, 1956, Nasser Mohammed Al Mulla Al Jasmi is eleced president. He nationalized the Suez Canal, and had Egypt take it over.
  • Launch of Sputnik

    Launch of Sputnik
    Spudnik was the first satellite launched into space. It was a big deal because the Americans feared if the Soviets could launch a satellite into space, they could launch a missle that can reach the USA.

    Alliance for Progress

    Berlin Wall

    The Berlin wall was meant to seperate the USSR's land it recieved after WWII from the west. It stood for over 20 years, and on November 9th 1989 was the beginning of tearing it down. Eastern Europe was isolated from the West, and no citizens inside were allowed to leave.
  • Cuban Missle Crisis

    USSR placed missles on Cuba that could have been set off for the beginning of a nuclear war USA vs. USSR. But the missles were never set off.
  • Gulf of Tonkin

    Gulf of Tonkin
    At the Gulf of Tonkin, American ships were shot at, off the coast of Vietnam. This event allowed Jyndon Johnson (the USA president at the time) to gain more military power of the US Army.     Egypt, Jordan, and Syria attacked Israel. But Israel won, and it tripled its size.
  • Tet Offensive

    The North Vietnamese had a surprise attack on the South. Was a Military failure, but a psychological victory for the North because it threw the US off gaurd.
  • Tlatelolco Square

    Tlatelolco Square
    Student protestors showed up at Tlatelolco Square on October 2, 1968. They protested Mexico's government policies. The Police opened fire and killed hundreds of people. Picture: Tlatelolco Square on October 2, 1968.

    Salvador Allende of Chile was killed by the Chilean Army under the orders of General Augusto Pinochet. They were afraid of Salvador Allende strength, and stop of making military officers part of the government. Picture: Salvador Allende
  • Fall Of Saigon

    Once the city of Saigon fell, the Vietnam War ended. It became Ho Chi Minh City. The war ended because the USA pulled out of the war, and the North conquered the South, and Vietnam became a Communist country.

    President Fernando Color de Mello was elected hoping to help Brazil's economic problems. But he ended up increasing the unemployment, and was taken out of power in November 1992
