History of Special Education

  • 19th Century

    People with disabilities lived in segregated locations and were labeled as "insane" or "idiots". There were differnet opinions of how theses people should be taught, whether it be moral treatment, sense education, or socialization.

    It is awful to hear the terms used in early years and to hear of the horrific conditions of the schools. Around 2,500 people were at this school, mostly boys. It later became an institution for adults. This institution was closed in 2007.
