Emily is born at Thornton in Yorkshire. She had 5 siblings: Charlotte, Branwell, Anne, Maria and, Elizabeth. Her parents are: Patrick and, Maria Bronte.
-
a time line of emily brontes life
-
The setting for her future book Wuthering Heights
-
Her death was due to cancer. Emily was 3 when her mother died.
-
It was a school for children who had 1 or no parents.
-
The school is horrible, it has very harsh punishments, has terrible food, and unsanitary living conditions. Teaching was based off of fear. (lucky for Emily she was a favorite with the teachers)
-
After being taken home from the school in february she died of consumption at home. Emily was age 7.
-
Their older sister Elizabeth had been brought home at the end of may after their sister had died.
-
She died at home of consumption just a month after Maria.
-
The significance of this is that this is what started the Brontes writings. Charlotte and Branwell would make up stories about an imaginary kingdom which they called Glass Town and then Angeria.
-
-
She decides she will bring one of her sisters back to the school with her. She chooses emily because she wants to furthen her relationship with her..
-
They broke away from their older siblings imaginary world and started their own called Gondal. They wrote about it in a diary they shared. At about age 16.
-
She hates it there. she grew very home sick. another idea is that she found the teaching childish and unstimulating. Emily couldnt function socially and liked to isolate her self.
-
she had stayed there for 9 months.
-
Due to the fact that Emily has alot of alone time she starts writing poems about gondal and anything that came to her mind.
-
Emily tried 1 and only 1 job. she got a job at Law Hill school. She couldnt/wouldnt associate herself with others. She didnt even like her students She even once told them that she preferred animals to them.
-
The only picture of emily. Was created when branwell was trying to be a portrait painter on one of Emily's breaks from teaching at Lawhill. in this picture Emily is age 21.
-
She started becoming depressed once more and suffered a mental collapse/decided she couldnt endure living away from home.
-
Therefore emily and anne started writing seperate diary entrys. During this time Emily was her fathers closest most beloved child he started teaching her latin a subject usually for boys.
-
they stay there for three days and move on
-
They started going to a school Pensionnat Heger. Charlotte didnt like it there but fell in love with one of her teachers Constantin Heger who Emily dispiesed (she really liked the school though).
-
The Brontes had to return home because their aunt died. Emily is approximatley age 34
-
There is a teaching job available for Charlotte in Brussles so she returns (plus the man shes in love with Constinant Hegar lives there)
-
It had been five years the longest a Bronte had ever held a job . She resigned because she fell in love with her benefactor (who was married) and it would never have worked out. When at home she and Emily go on a 2 day trip to York.
-
They Wrote under diferent names because they thought their poems wouldnt be likley to be bought if they were writen by women.
-
The Novels Wuthering Heights-Emily, Agnes Grey-Anne, The Professor-Charlotte
-
They go to get an eye surgon to operate on their father Patrick.
-
By Tomas Newby for publication but only at their own expence.
-
Her prior novel may not have be chosen because it was rejected or Charlotte rejected the publisher.
-
It was an imediate sucess
-
Most of the reviews of Wuthering heights (emily's book) were bad. The book challenged and even ignors the fictional and moral convections of its time. Emily is age 39 by now.
-
We dont know if their really was a second novel but it was spoken of and she aparently wasnt satisfied with it.
-
He was depressed and had a broken heart (he was rejected by a women who he worked for (she was married), It was almost as if he was determined to die. Many local legends are based around his death.
-
After Branwells Funeral Emily Grew very sick but refused to see a docter. She knew that she was suffering from consumption.
-
As Emily was sitting on her sofa awaiting her death her last few words showed her sardonic humor saying, "if you will send for a doctor, I will see him now."
