    Massachusetts law of 1642
    . This law made an education mandatory for all children and provided all students with a bare minimum education on how to be a citizen in their society. This particualr law revolutionized the way American schools were thought of. It allowed schools to be more unified and uniform than just allowing students to do whatever they want. This law provided the foundation for the US educational system today making it an important event.
  • Brown v. Board

    Brown v. Board
    School is supposed to be the great equalizer in that all students get the same education. This court case forced the American Public to take a close look at how unequal their different educational systems were. The resulting fallout of this case meant that all kids could attend school which made school a place where kids could also learn about different cultures from their classmates instead of just through assuredly racist books.
  • Title IX

    Title IX
    This law allows students the opportunity to participate in activities without fear of gender discrimination on campuses. This event allows students to be free to pursue their interests regardless of perceived norms, a chance not afforded before. Living in the face of sexism is a reality for all women. Title IX makes sure that women are taken seriously as members of the university and it makes for a more understanding student body of students who understand gender struggles.
  • Mills V. DC Board of Education

    Mills V. DC Board of Education
    Children with disabilities before this case were forced to be brought to a special institution, not allowing them in a public school. This case decided they had the same rights as all other students. All kids have a right to education, this act provided students with disabilities the same opportunities that all other kids were afforded. This minimized the distance between the learning of handicapped kids and non handicapped kids.
  • No Child Left Behind

    No Child Left Behind
    This act forced schools to put standardized test scores above everything, as it forced schools to compete for grant money from the government. Educators took an active role in fighting for their students. It also forced educators to evaluate standardized tests and how important they should be in the modern school system. This act did a lot of damage that was hard to repair, but its fruition of being forced all teachers to evaluate what makes these tests so important.
