  • Dien Bien Phu

    A battle where the French declared a cease fire on the 55 day long battle.
  • Ho Chi Minh Trail

    During 1954 the Ho Chi Minh Trail was created to transport supplies from North Vietnam to the Vietcong in the South in order to support the fight in the South even farther.
  • United States Becomes Involved

    The U.S. decides to send more help help with not only equipment but around 3,000 personell to South Vietnam. This was in hope that the South would be able to fend of Guerilla attacks and restore the region.
  • Operation Rangeland

    The goal of this operation was to clear shrubbery and dense vegatation away from heavily traveled routes in order to prevent the Guerillas from being able to conceal themselves. An orange spray was then used containing Dioxin which happens to kill all plant life even the plants the Guerillas may have been eating. it was a win win.
  • Gulf of Tonkin Attack

    A U.S. vessel reports being fired upon and a retaliation strike soon follows. The U.S. bombed two naval bases and one oil plant before the captain of the U.S. vessel could report that no attachk actually took place.

  • Rollin Thunder Begins

    Johnson devises a plan to bomb the north continuously in order to prevent them from supporting the southern guerillas and hopefully end the war altogether. It was granted in febraury but did not take place until march and lasted around three years.

    President Johnson sent 60,000 more troops to South Vietnam after the peace offer was rejected anticipating more fighting.

  • Operation Junction City

    Operation Junction City is launched to ease pressure on Saigon. It was an effort to smash the Viet Cong's stronghold in Tay Ninh Province and surrounding areas along the Cambodian border northwest of Saigon.

    All but 133,000 troops have returned to the United States leaving most of the responsibilty to the South Vietnam and all aid is mostly air and equipment from there on out.

    Peace talks resume after recent bombings and the continuing casulties suffered by both sides

    Nixon resigns from office leaving south vietnam without its strongest advocate
  • U.S. Evacuation

    After Saigon falls and the last U.S, casulties occur the last of the troops and all souther citizens flee saigon and return home ending the war.
