    The War Powers Act was passed to limit the president’s ability to wage war without a formal declaration by Congress.

  • Panama Canal

    President Carter signed a few treaties giving the Panama Canal to the government of Panama.

  • Funding Social Security

    President Reagan and House speaker Tip O’Neill worked together to create a bipartisan plan to fund Social Security.

  • Clinton v. City of New York

    The Supreme Court struck down the new law that gave the president a lot more power when it comes to vetoes.

  • Homeland Security

    President Bush persuaded congress to create a new federal department, know as the Department of Homeland Security.
