    On September 8, 1900, a terrible hurricane hit Galveston, destroying homes and businesses. Thousands of people were left homeless, and some died or were wounded. After the hurricane, most people moved to Houstan, causing it to be the number one import city in Texas instead of Galveston. A seawall was then built, to protect the city. The cause of this great storm was the misuse of windmills.
