The Beatles First Performed Live on the Ed Sullivan show. The acts that followed had a hard time following them. Ed Sullivan gave his famous introduction, "Ladies and gentlemen... the Beatles." -
Hasbro releaed G. I. Joe Action Figures
G. I. Joe action figures were made for boys because of the increasingly popular barbie doll. These action figures were made to be WWII themed that way fathers and sons could talk about what certain parts of the uniform were about since most fathers had served in WWII. -
Lyndon B. Johnson is reelected
Lyndon B. Johnson wins the 1964 presidential election with a landslide victory. Lyndon B. Johnson recieved 43 million votes compared to his opponet Barry Goldwater who received 27 million votes. -
Three Civil Rights workers were Murdered
Civil Rights workers James Chaney, Michael Schwerner, and Andrew Goodman were murdered in Mississippi. This was an important event for the time because two of the people were white. -
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 is Passed
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibited discrimination based on race. The senators voted 73-27 and passed the law. One man tried to fillibuster but it was broken when then 2/3 majority was reached. -
