    Kennedy-Nixon Election
    John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon were going against each other in the election. Nixon was running for the Republican Party and Kennedy was running for the Democratic Party. This election was very close with JFK only winning by 120,000 votes more than Nixon. Telivision Media had a big impact on the election. When the debate went onto the TV Kennedy had a advantage because of his suit color. Nixon on the other hand was hurt by the TV because it made him look uncomfortable and tense. (Kennedy won)

    George C. Wallace Speech
    Geroge Wallace gave a inaugural speech that said the unforgotten "segregation today, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever." Geroge was for segregation and didn't believe in integration into schools. Wallace was a new Governor of Alabama who thought whites were more supreme than blacks. Wallace speech was impoertant to blacks rights because he didnt believe in integration.

    Martin Luther King led this march to try to gain racial equality. Equality in jobs and freedom rights. King believed that all races are equal and deserve equal work rights. Over 250,000 people congregated in D.C. to support him. The civil rights march was important because it was a huge leap in blacks rights and freedom. This was when Martin Luther King made one of the most famous speech "I have a Dream".

    John F. Kennedy's was assassinated in Dallas, Texas while riding through town in a convertible. He had just left the hotel he was at and was shot in the neck and head. Kennedy was shot by Lee Harvey Oswald and Oswald was arrested right after. JFK assasssination was important because he was the president and trying to run for a second term.

    The Gulf of Tonkin gave the expansion of United States involvement in the Vietnam War. President Lyndon Johnson was the president at the time when he expanding more troops into North and South Vietnam.     The riots began due to racial issues. Blacks were accusing white policemen of arresting and abusing blacks for no reason. These rioters began to get angry and volatile actions increased. Rioters started to break in stores, shoot the policmen, and beat the whites. These riots were stopped by the National Guard in 5 days later.

    During the summer of 1967 tens of thousands of people came to a Neighborhood in San Francisco where they played music and hippies began to rise in popularity. Hippie Subculture was widely spread in the 1960’s started by youth. The culture listened to rock and blues. Hippies were known for smoking marijuana, drinking, and playing lots of music.
