    President Eisenhower carried on the New Deal and Fair Deal programs to try and get a more balanced budget system running in the United States. This improved budget system could potentially bring out a better economy. He wanted to balance the federal budget.

    Supreme CourtThe decision of the Brown v. Board of Education case was that segregation of public schools was unconstitutional. “Separate but equal” facilities were no longer allowed. Although the court decision did not completely desegregate the country, it pushed the country into the beginning of what became the Civil Rights Movement.

    Geneva Conference Splits Vietnam
    GenevaIn July of 1954, the Geneva Agreements were signed. Because of this, France took their troops out of North Vietnam and Vietnam was to be temporarily divided at the 17th parallel. During these two years, no troops were to enter.

    PBSAlthough a tragedy, Emmett Till's murder was sparked activism towards the Civil Rights Movement. Emmett Till was brutally murdered. Medgar Evers, an NAACP member , wanted the NAACP to get involved in this case. The quick acquittal of Till's killers and the aftermath of it, inspired activists like Rosa Parks.

    Rosa ParksRosa Parks defied the law by refusing to give up her bus seat to a white man. She was a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and went to jail for her courageous actions, which sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

    NPSAgainst the court, Governor Orval Faubus ordered the National Guard of Arkansas to prevent the "Little Rock Nine" from the building just because these students were African American.Because of President Eisenhower, Faubus had the Guard protect the students for a short time and then they stopped protecting them.

    Sit-InThe Sit-In Movement was when four African American college students went up to an all-white lunch counter and ordered. When they were refused service beacuse of their skin they sat there quietly and patiently. After this, sit-in movements were created.

    MLK Jr.Martin Luther King Jr. was shot and killed at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. This was devestating to many of the community because he was such aninspiring person for everyone. He "fought" nonviolently for what he believed in and made great strides for equality for African Americans.
