  • Executive Order 9066

    This order authorized the removal of any person from certain "exclusion zones." These zones covered almost a third of the country. The act was designed to remove or relocate Japanese citizens.
  • GI Bill

    The GI Bill was designed to offer benefits to returning veterans. It provided a secondary education and encouraged home ownership.
  • D-Day

    D-Day was the largest amphibious invasion in history. It took place on the beaches of Normandy in France and ultimately resulted in victory in Europe several months later.
  • WW2 Ends

    World War II ended after the official surrender of Japan on September 2, 1945
  • Truman Doctrine

    The Truman Doctrine was an American foreign policy with the primary goal of containing Soviet geopolitical expansion during the Cold War. It was announced to Congress by President Harry S. Truman on March 12, 1947, and further developed on July 4, 1948, when he pledged to contain the communist uprisings in Greece and Turkey.
  • NATO

    The North Atlantic Treaty Organization also called the North Atlantic Alliance, is an intergovernmental military alliance between 30 European and North American countries.
  • Korean War

    The Korean War began when 75,000 North Korean soldiers poured across the 38th parallel and invaded South Korea. It was the first military action of the Cold War. North Korea had support from the Soviet Union, and South Korea had support from the United States.
  • Twenty Second Amendment

    The twenty-second amendment states: "No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once."
  • 1952 Presidential Election

    The 1952 Presidential Election was the 42nd quadrennial presidential election and held on Tuesday, November 4, 1952. Dwight D. Eisenhower represented the Republican party and ran against Democrat Adlai Stevenson. Eisenhower won in a landslide and became the 42nd President of the United States.
  • End of Korean War

    Fighting stopped on July 27, 1953, when the Korean Armistice Agreement was signed. It established a "complete cessation of all hostilities in Korea by all armed forces."
