The Hindenburg disaster happened on May 6, 1937 in Lakehurst, New Jersey due to an electrical charge within the airship. The disaster killed 35 people aboard the airship and one member from the ground crew. There were 62 of the 97 passengers and crew aboard the airship that survived.
