  • Prohibition

    On January 17th 1920 the prohibition started. This meant that the sale, importation and transportation of alcohol was prohibited. Prohibitionists wanted to end the consumption of alcohol because they thought that it would end health problems, family violence and, political corruption.
  • New Economic Policy

    The Soviet Union created a new policy that allowed a mixed economy. More people in the US were happy because they were allowed to own their own businesses.
  • Jazz Blossomed

    Jazz became a big thing in the 1920s. Many people were very happy because the music brought them together.
  • 19th Amendment Was Passed

    After many years of sufferage and fighting, women were allowed to vote. Women voted for better roads and better education for their children.
  • The First Two Women Were Elected Governer

    Miriam Ferguson was elected for governor of Texas. Nellie Ross was elected governor of Wyoming. This was such a big deal because woman fought to get equal rights for so long and they finally got them.
  • National Conflict

    There was a new law that was created because of Fundamentalism. Since fundamentalists didn't believe in the theory of evolution, they didn't want it to get taught in school. They got twelve states to ban the teaching of evolution. This made people all over the country mad.
  • Flappers

    Flappers were women who had short hair and wore fancy dresses. The men cut off their beards. Flappers were people who liked to dance at jazz clubs and drink alcohol. They were known for their freedom. Flappers were not socially accepted because of the things they practiced.
  • The Jazz Singer

    The Jazz singer was one of the first "talking pictures". Before, all of the films had been silent but this one had sound to it.
  • Amelia Earhart

    Amelia Earhart started her attempt at being the first women to fly across the Atlantic Ocean.
  • Wall Street Crash

    The Wall Street Crash was the start of the Great Depression. It is when the stock market crashed. Production of everything in the US stopped. This caused a lot of people to lose jobs, money and their families.
