    Strained relations started a rebellion against Birtain. Sepoys were Indian soldiers who fought in the British army. The violence of this rebellion was ferocious.

    Das Kapital was a three-part work that contained his arguments against capitalism. Marx thought that socialism could help rid the world of injustices. He thought there should be a direct connection between one's work and one's pay.

  • Boxer Rebellion

    Believed they were invulnerable to Western weapons. Boxers laid seige to foreign compounds in Beijing and held foreigners hostage for 55 days. An army of 20,000 foreign troops captured Beijing and supressed the uprising.

    Japan viewed Russia as a threat to its plans on building an empire. Japan defeated Russian in the war. The defeat shocked many Russians and added to growing unrest and calls for change.
  • Franz Ferdinand is Killed

    There was tension and resentment from the Serbians towards Austria-Hungary and it's leader. Franz Ferdinand's car was driving through Sarjevo when a young Serbian man shot him. Ferdinand and his wife were both killed.

Without the help, the South began losing.

The United States became worried because Cuba's alliance brought the Cold War alarmingly close to American territory. The U.S. government secretly trained 15,00 Cubans to overthrow Castro but they were defeated.
  • Mikhail Gorbachev's Power in USSR

    He aggressively pursued arms controls agreements with the United States, reduced central planning of the Soviet economy, and introduced some free-market mechanisms. He began to pull Sovet troops out of Eastern Europe, urging local leaders to adopt reforms. His actions reversed decades of Soviet policy.
