    Great Northern War

    The Great Northern War would last for 21 years. The fighting extended across Northern, Eastern and Central Europe. A coalition of forces opposed the Swedish Empire in Northern Europe and declared war on Sweden. Resulting in a Russian victory and ended by the Treaty of Nystad.
  • Battle of Narva

    Battle of Narva
    A major Swedish victory over a Russian army outside Narva early in the Great Northern War led by Charles XII of Sewden.
  • The Virginia Black Code of 1705

    Takes away black's rights to bear arms, marry whites, and have land. Established slavery in VA and took for granted that a black person is a slave and cannot vote.

    The Religious Great Awakening

    Religious movement characterized by emotional preaching (Jonathan Edwards & George Whitefield). The first cultural movement to unite the Thirteen Colonies. Associated with the democratization of religion.
  • Molasses Act

    A British law that imposed a tax on sugar, molasses, and rum imported from non-British colonies into North American colonies. It was intended to maintain the monopoly of the American sugar market by the West Indies sugarcane growers. It was the least successful of the Navigation Acts, since it was avoided by smuggling.

    Second Carnatic War

    Struggle for power between various Indian claimants to power in southern India, each supported by the French or the British. The First Carnatic War had been a direct conflict between the two European powers, but in the Second Carnatic War both of them officially acted in support of rival local claimants in Hyderabad and the Carnatic.
