  • Beginning of the Enlightenment period

    The Enlightenment was an intellectual movement of ideas concerning things like God, nature, and humanity. All of these ideas were synthesized into a worldview which was highly popular in America.
  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre was a deadly riot in the streets of Boston. It began as a dispute between some American colonists and a British soldier, but quickly became a deadly battle between both sides.
  • Boston Tea Party

    American colonists who were angry at the Britain's tax policies, dumped 342 chests of tea into the harbor at Griffin's Wharf. The significance of this revolt was that it was the first major opposition of the colonists to the British.
  • The First Continental Congress Convenes

    The delegates from each of the 13 colonies (besides Georgia) convene in Philadelphia to organize the colonies resistance to Parliament.
  • Declaration of Independence

    With the creation of this document, the 13 colonies of America severed all ties with Great Britain making them independent. The document outlined the independent rights and equalities of American citizens and is still present today.
  • Articles of Confederation

    In May of 1787, 57 of the delegates of the Constitutional Convention convened in Philadelphia to amend the Articles of Confederation in order to win the Revolutionary War.
