15 Events of The Cold War

  • Europe's "Iron Curtain"

    A term used to describe the boundary that seperated europe. Areas under soviet control lingering behind an "iron curtain" It seperated Warsaw Pact countries from Nato Countries from 1946 to the end of the cold war in 1991.
  • The Marshall Plan

    Also known as the European Recovery Plan, This plan was a recovery plan where the U.S. would give Europe Money in order to stop the spread of communism
  • The Berlin Airlift

    The United States and The United Kingdom both occupied Germany after WWII. There was a crisis because the relations between the soviet union and the west became unstable. The soviet union blocked rail, road and water access leading the U.S. and the U.K. airlifted food and supplies from different parts of Germany. This ended in May 1949
  • NATO

    North Atlantic Treaty Organization or NATO is formed from 11 western countries out of fear of communist expansion.
  • Brown Vs. The Board of Education

    A supreme court case that desegregated the schools and let to other facilities being desegregated.
  • The Warsaw Pact

    The Warsaw pact was a communist alliance formed by the soviet union.
  • The Vietnam War

    From November 1955 to the fall of Saigon in April 1975. It was fought between the US and the USSR. The US feared the spread of communism if they did not win.
  • Rosa Parks Arrested

    Rosa Parks Arrested for not giving up her seat to a white woman.
  • The Space Race

    Russia Launched Sputnik and America was afraid of space based weapons. The second Sputnik put a dog into space. U.S. Eventually takes the lead in the Space race with the moonlanding in 1969
  • John F. Kennedy Elected

    Kennedy ran against Richard Nixon for president. Kennedy was the first Catholic president. First televised presedential debate ever. Kennedy won very narrowly.
  • Bay of Pigs Invasion

    the failed military invasion of Cuba. The U.S. planned to overthrow Fidel Castro but it failed. U.S. didnt like Castro because he was communist.
  • The Berlin Wall

    a barrier that seperated Berlin from 1961-1989 it kept east germans from running away to the west and came to symbolize Europe's Iron Curtain.
  • The Cuban Missle Crisis

    The United States came close to having a nuclear war. One of John F. Kennedy's greatest victories. Soviets were threatening to install nuclear missiles to stop the U. S. from attacking. Kennedy puts the soviets on notice and tells the world what the soviet union is doing and announces the U. S. will not stand for it uses naval forces to surround the island.
