The government set up a committee to survey industrial school provision and report to the Minister for Education -
29 Industrial Schools in operation
There were 29 industrial schools in operation catering for 1513 pupils. The survey Findings were published in the Kennedy Report The Report proposed changes in training for personnel in charge of such children and in the legal framework and after-care provision In the aftermath of the Kennedy Report some improvements took place in in dealing with children in care. The names %u201Creformatory" and %u201Cindustrial%u201D were changed to residential homes. -
