  • Assination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria

    Assination of  Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria
    Ferdinand and his wife were mudered in Sarajevo by Gavrilo Princip. He was part of a group of six Serb assasins. The ultimate goal of this plan was to break off south Austria-Hungary's southern provinces, combining them with Yugoslavia.
  • British Get Involved

    British Get Involved
    The British didn't want to or need to get involved in WWI because the had everything. However they hoped that by getting involved it would stop the war. They said that if Germany invaded Belgium that they would join in. Germans are little crazy, so they invaded Belgium, and BAM the British started fighting!
  • First Zeppelin Raid on Britain

    First Zeppelin Raid on Britain
    The Zeppelin Raids were preformed at night and targeted only military sites on the east coast and Thames estuary. However blackouts caused many bombs to fall on East Anglia.

    The first attack was planned to go on January 13, 1915, but bad weather caused them to abort the mission. On January 19, 1915 they were finally able to take off towards the Humber. Unfortuanetly in this incident, strong winds divereted the bombs, and they landed on near by villages killing 4 and injuring 16.

    A secret pact made between Italy and the Triple Entene. Italy was supposed to leave the Triple Alliance, declare war on Austria-Hungary and Germany within a month, and gain new territories at the end of the war.
  • Battle of Jutland

    Battle of Jutland
    Battle fought between the British Navy's Grand Fleet and the German Navy's High Seas Fleet. It started May 31 and end on June 1, 1916. They fought in the North Sea near Jutland, Denmark. This was the largest naval battle of WWI.
  • Italy Declares War on Germany

    Italy finaly declares war on Germany. They were supposed to do this about 2 years ago due to agreements in the Treaty of London in 1915.
  • USA Enters the War

    USA Enters the War
    Because the Germans continued to bomb US ships, they entered the war in 1917. They declared war against Germany, thus entering on Britain's side.
  • Battle of Caporetto

    Battle of Caporetto
    This battle last until November 19, 1917. The Astro-Hungarian Forces (backed by Germans) were facing the Italian forces. The Astro-Hugarians successfully broke the Italian front and overwhelmingly defeated the Italian army there. The Germans used poison gas to defeat the Italians
  • Spring Offensive (Kaiser's Battle)

    Spring Offensive (Kaiser's Battle)
    This was a series of German attacks along the Western Front. it was the deepest advance on either side since 1914. There were four seperate attacks: Michael, Georgette, Gneisenau, and Blücher-Yorck. Michael was the main attack. It was supposed to break through the Allied lines, out number the British, and then defeat them. However none of this happened because the Allied lines were much more focused.
  • Armistice Day

    Armistice Day
    The Allied Forces and Germany signed an armistice. This really only marks the stop of fighting on the Western Front. After WWII the name was changed to Veterans Day in the USA and Rememberance Day in Britain.
