    The Magma Carta was the first document that was forced on the king that tried to limit his powers by law to protect the barons (the kings peers) privilages. It stated That the king didn't have all of the power and could only punish people through the law of the land not arbitrarily.

    Mayflower compact
    The Mayflower Compact was the first governing document of plymouth colony. It established majority rule and allegiance to the king of england. It was written by the pilgrams and 41 of 102 people on the Mayflower signed this document. This importatly granted the freedom for the people to practice christianity away from the English Church.

    The petition of rights gave the people the right to live with freedom and not be placed in prison. Thus the citizens recived more rights and the kings powers were limited. The major provisions of the petition of rights included that only the Parliment could pass taxes, Martial law can't be imposed during peace time and prisoniers were given the right to challange their detentions.

It also listed grievances against the king. It stated that all men are created equal and all men have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
