NATO and Warsaw Pact
In 1949, the united states, canada, and ten other countries formed a new military alliance called the north atlantic treaty organization. membrs in this pact agreed to help eachother at all times. Then in 1955 the soviet made there own allies and called it the warsaw pact which included 7 satelites in europe. most countries in the east were communist and the countries in the west were democracies. -
Berlin Wall
this was a key focus in the cold war. the west of berlin was democratic and the east was communist. Un-paid people of east berlin were unhappy with the communist ways so some started to leave and head to the west. To stop this flight east berlin built a wall to keep its side of there people in that area. and this made history from the massive wall and story it became. -

Nuclear Arms Race and Detente
Nuclear weapons threatened the world, now the united states, and soviets both had nuclear weapons and it was a big deal. eventually, they signed an agreement saying they had limitations on useing the nuclear weapons also saying what kind of weaponds were now aloud to be used. 1980 president Reagan gave orders to build a new idea called "star wars" missle defence against nuclear attack. even though people thaught making this new idea would violate the terms of the treaty they still signed it. -
