Recently moved to the United States and had to take ESOL classes, because I only knew how to speak Spanish.
-
Stopped taking ESOL classes in school, and was on grade level with reading and writing.
-
Started to take Maryland School Assessments each school year, and had to pass them all in order to pass each grade.
-
I began to read more and more small chapter books, because for every book that I would read I would earn prizes.
-
I began to read more chapter books in a program that I was a part of where we would be able to read to different dogs. (Almost like a dog book club for kids)
-
I began to be able to read books in Spanish more fluently.
-
I began taking English Honors classes in High School; a class where I would have to read and write more than the regular English class that other students had to take. (An honors class would require students to read and be able to do more comprehensive assignments.)
-
I began to be able to write my own summaries of the different books that I would read. (As well as being able to answer key questions about the things that happened in the book based on the different characters, setting, plot, problems, and solutions that would happen in the books that I would read.)
-
I felt that my English Honors class was getting more and more difficult for me, and much more stressful, so I choose to take regular English class in high school instead of Honors.
-
I was able to pass the college course, English 121 at Howard Community College with an A.
