    The French and Indian War

This war allowed for Great Britain to take over a lot of territory in North America. The Treaty Of Paris ended the war in 1763 making it to where no foreign countries had any land on north America, ending any threat from foreign military.
the colonists were mad because they wanted to settle in that land but it was taken over. Even then after the treaty passed it allowed for them to settle again.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
The sugar Act was made to increase the British income by preventing smuggling of sugar molasses into American colonies and enforcing a higher tax to pay back the British.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
First tax on American colonists enforced by British government. It made colonists pay a tax that was represented as a stamp on an important document on paper (lawyers, newspaper makers).
The colonists were mad because they had no say in the tax and the British just needed money back from being in debt after the war.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
This made the taxing of the Stamp Act both in the American colonies and Great Britain. Basically saying parliament could do whatever they want with the colonists.
Many colonists saw it as a win through political view. But others saw were very angry because it meant most likely more acts would be on the way
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
This stopped smuggling by taxing any and all imported goods to the American colonies
Colonists acted out in boycotts and protests including women. This ended out in the Boston massacre.
British merchants then pushed for a repeal because the boycotts did not help their income
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
Offered tax exemptions and rebates for tea coming from the British allowing them to give away the tea to the colonists for cheaper. It helped maintain parliaments right to tax the colonies. Colonists were mad that cheap tea would cut into the profits of smugglers but most were mad about the principle of it
