Early in his life he worked at Quincy House Grille selling pizza. His best customer, Alfred Lin later became the CFO and COO of Zappo's. After Collage he worked Hsieh worked for Oracle Corporations.

He came up with the idea of an advertising network called LinkExchange in 1996. Members had their companies displayed in banner adds on their website. The site grew to 20,000 participants within 90 days of the launch. In 1998 LinkExchange had over 400,000 members. Microsoft bought out LinkExchange in 1998 for $265 million.

Tony co-founded Venture Frogs, a investment firm. He did this with his business partner Alfred Lin. They invested in Ask Jeeves, OpenTable, and Zappos.

Nick Swinmurn asked Hsieh and Lin about selling shoes online. They were skeptical at first but in 2009 the revenue reached $1 billion.
