    Rape of Nanking

    Rape of Nanking was a series of mass murder and rape committed by Imperial Japanese troops against the residents of Nanking, then the capital of China, during the Second Sino-Japanese War. During the Sino-Japanese War, Nanking, the capital of China, fell to Japanese forces, and the Chinese government escaped to Hankow, further inland along the Yangtze River. To destroy the spirit of Chinese resistance, Japanese General Matsui Iwane ordered that the city of Nanking be demolished.

    Evacuation of Dunkirk

    The Evacuation of Dunkirik was the evacuation of Allied soldiers from the beaches and harbor in Dunkirk. The evacuation took place because the British and allied troops were forced to retreat onto the beaches of Dunkirk by the Nazis, and the only way out was across the channel. Eventually Allied forces saved everyone stranded using private and fishing boats in since they were short on naval equipment and ships. This successful mission saved thousands of lives.

    The first raid conducted by the U.S against Tokyo in April 1942. It was commanded by James Doolittle and concerned the use of light bombers flying off the deck of an aircraft carrier in the north Pacific. It caused little damage but lifted the spirits of the Americans.

    This was the first aircraft carrier battle when Japanese and Americans first met in battle together. It took place at a body of water off the northeast coast of Australia. Allied vessels attempted to stall the Japanese attack on Port Moresby, and the Japanese progress was stopped, although this negatively affected the Americans more than the Japanese.

This battle was one of the most deadly battles of WW2. It was a turning point in the war, along with Allied victories in North Africa and an annihilation for Hitler and the Nazis.

It was Hitler's last effort to drive away the invadined forces. It was the single largest bloodiest battle American forces experienced, with 19,000 deaths.
