    Great Migration Timeframe

    The Great Migration began in 1910 because of too low of wages in the South. The Northern factories had better pay for blacks than rural southern farm jobs and sharecropping. These jobs in northern cities such as New York City and Philadelphia made the blacks migrate using trains, buses, and wagons to the north abondoning their old lives. Additionally, even after the Civil War, the south was still more prejudiced towards blacks giving them another reason to move to the North.

    Wilson Presidency

    Wilson, the 28th US president, used progresive reformism to creat e the FTC and the Federal Reserve to keep eliminate monolpolies and uphold our economy. He made Congress declare war on German in 1917 and urged for US's participation in WW1 after the sinking of Lusitania. DUring his presidency he negotiated a peace treaty to end the war, earned a nobel prize, and and proposed the League of Nations to Congress in person.

    Sinking of the Lusitania
    Germany torpedoes a British passenger ship causing the US to get involved in the war.

    Jeanette Rankin was the first woman representative to be elected to the House in Montana.
  • Lenin led a Russian Revolution

    Lenin led a Russian Revolution
    Valdemir Lenin, who founded the Bolshevik party, saw the current Russian government at the time with discontent. Lenin declared enemies as anybody who wasn't part of the Bolshevik party. Throuogh propoganda and manipulation, Lenin and his party took control of the Russian governmental seats and used his socialist ideas alongs with force to forcefully rule of the Russian people. Lenin was strongly against Russian participation in the war and promised to unify the Russian people.

    Selective Service Act
    The Selective Service Act was the first act to force eligible men to serve in a US war (other than in the Civil War). President Wilson declared the mandate after only 32,000 Americans voluntarily enlissted in the millitary. The darft was originally for men ages 21 ro 30 but changed to include those 18 to 45.

    This act prohibitted US citizens' interference with war recruiting and helping or supporting national wartime enemies.
  • Wilson's 14 Points

    These points were outlined in a speech given by president Wilson to show Congress how the US can create peace between war-torn nations and then presented the League of Nations idea and urged for US participation.
  • Influenza (flu) epidemic

    Influenza (flu) epidemic
    This pandemic was the first of two and killed over 20 millions people (more than the Great War), and it was the war that helped spread the disease to many different countries.
  • Sedition Act

    This was an extension to the Espionage Act that furthur restricted negative backlash from citizens when it came to the war: citizens were't allowed to engage in speech that was against the US's involvement in the war.
  • Schenk vs. US

    This freedom of speech case, whcih ruled in favor of the US government, detailed that the Constitution gives the government right to to prohibit verbilization that presents a clear and present danger to the US ideals (such as distributing flyers to draftees).
  • US Rejects the Treaty of Versailles

    This Treaty was never enacted by the US (with slightly less than 2/3 of Congress' vote); the treaty would have officially brought peace amongth the Allies and Germany and supported the League of Nations.
  • US rejects League of Nations membership

    After the Treaty of Versailles was established to officially bring peace amonst previously war-drrawn nations, president Wilson called for an organization to prevent war in the future by establishing a League of Nations. This league was to have input from nations' leaders world-wide in an attempt to maintain healthy trade relationships and economies to prevent pre-war tension.

    19th Ammendment
    This ammendment gave women citizens the right to vote in US election and was ratified due to a long-term woman's suffrage movement in the US during the time period.
  • "The Wasteland" is published

    T.S. Elliot's "The Wasteland" poem is published, and it incorporated British literature and Buddhist themes and is often regarded as one of the best poetic works of its time.
  • The Immigration Act is Passed

    This act eclared by Congress restricted all Asians from entering the US and denied access to 98% of US immigrants trying to get into the country.
  • Charles Lindbergh flies across the midatlantic.

    Charles was the first man to sly sol over the Atlantic ocean in one flight; his flight was taken in a signle seated monoplane that flew from NY to France.
  • First Mickey Mouse cartoon

    Mickey was first drafted as a sketch character by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks as a character for the show Steamboat Willie and became a largely recognized character.
  • Stock market crash

    The stock market crashes sending the US into the Great Depression and making millions lose their homes and fortunes.
