    Vladimir Lenin was the leader of the radical socialist Bolshevik Party which seized power in 1917. After the revolution, Lenin headed the new Soviet government that formed in Russia. He became the leader of the USSR in 1922.

    Jeannette Rankin of Montana campaigned as a progressive in 1916, and she was swore into Congress in 1917.

    The Selective Service Act was enacted by President Wilson which allowed all men in the US between ages 21 and 30 to register for military service.

    About 500 million people had the flu virus, and about 50 million died from it worldwide. Close quarters and large troop movements aided the spreading of the virus. There were several waves, and they had limited knowledge and resources to create treatment and prevention. There were no vaccines prevent it, antibiotics to help treatment, or antiviral drugs to aid secondary bacterial infections. Since, there have been multiple advancements to treat the flu.

    The rejection of the Treaty of Versailles was the first rejection of a peace treaty, a 39/55 vote. Several groups were divided over the ratification of the treaty, but it was never ratified and the US never joined the League of Nations.

    In November 1920, the first commercial broadcasting radio station broadcasted live presidential election results. It spread popularity of the radio and within the next 6 years, there were over 700 radio stations, and thousands of radios were sold. It was the beginning of mass media.

  • Teapot Dome Scandal

    The scandal in the early 1920's dealt with the secret releasing of federal oil reserves by the secretary of interior, Albert Fall. He granted Harry F. Sinclair exclusive rights to the teapot dome, who gave similar rights to Edward L. Doheny.
  • Amelia Earhart earns flying license

    Amelia flew in an airplane for the first time in 1920, and she quickly took interest in becoming a pilot and excelled. She earned her flying license in December of 1921 and set the record of altitude in 1922 of 14000 feet.

  • Mickey Mouse created

    In Walt Disney's Steamboat Willie, it introduced Mickey Mouse for the first time. Minnie Mouse also made her first appearance in the short film. Mickey attracted particular attention and they continues to include him in cartoons and films afterward and released earlier cartoons and additional soundtracks.
