Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia. The assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand by Gavrilo Princip is the cause of the war. I, Quincy Claude Ayres, has no interest in this war and do not wish to be apart of it. This war doesn't include me.

The battle of Verdun a battle between France against Germany. I keep on hearing about these awful battles, however this battle is the worst yet. The casualties are high, in the thousands. Villages and small towns have been wiped off the map as if they were never there. I wish to never be apart of this war and to stay at home with my family.

Woodrow Wilson has declared war on Germany. He has brought us into this war in which we have no business being in. I hope I don't get enlisted to participate in this war. I have a family I need to take care of.

I've been recently enlisted into the Navy into the 13th Naval District. I am to be boarding the USS "Pocahontas" and leaving the port on December 12th. I will be parting towards Paris in France. I wish to be with my wife and family soon.

I am now able to leave Brest to go home. Thankfully the war has ended. I can now see my wife which I miss so much. I should be arriving at the harbor around early June.

The war has ended! Germany has surrendered! The war is officially over and I no longer have to worry about it. I was just able to come home a month ago and now it has ended, my friends that I met on the lines are no longer in trouble.
