    During the War Germany had declared war on Russia,and France. But germany had invaded Belguim, and Britian, but Britian had declared war on Germany and Austria-Hungary.Then Britain made a Naval blockade to were weapons and other military suppies would be prevented from getting through. Germany responded with sinking 3 ships using U-boats.

    He had served from 1917-1919 when he enlisted he had lied about his age and had joined at the age of 16. He was an Ambulance driver. The after words he was with a Prisoner of war company. Which was were they would return prisoners back to Germany.

    The unit he was with went overseas which was called "First Fort Riley casual detachment. There were 102 other men aboard the same ship as him. The First Fort Riley casual detachment was/ is an Army base in Central Kansas. The Fort itself was biult in January of 1853.

    Frank had docked in Glasgow, Scotland. His unit went on to Winchester, England to wait to go to France. His unit was forced to replace the Marines who were sent to France. He does not tell us the details on why they had to replace the Marines.

    At the begining of the war France had under 40 million as it population. But as the thhe war kept on going by the end of the war they had lost 1.39m and 4.25m wounded. Besides the crazy amount of loses,the french never gave up until germany was defeated.

    On this day President Woodrow Wislon made his famous speech " Peace without victory". He presented this not only infront of his family but to the U.S. Congress. He wanted to maintain the united states so that we could remain neutral during the war. He thought it could play a role as a peace breaker in the future.

    German Kaiser announces Germany will begin again with the U- Boat attacks. Germany prepared their submarines so that if any ship was to enter the so-called" War-zone waters" then they would attack. Germany had also taken its restricted U-boat attacks in 1915. Right after the United States lost the Lusitania with Americans aboard.

    British code breakers solved a message that was going from the german ambassador to mexico. The british decoded the message and figured out what was going on between Germany and Mexico. But when it was solved the british handed the message over to the United states in Late february.

    President Woodrow Wilson formally Proclaims the neutrality of the united states which was a position of the majority of Americans favored. Germany tried or at least attempted to sink one of Britians ships. Which Britain was one of our closes trading partners. But sooner than later tension started to rise between us and Germany. The reason behinds this was when many of not only our ships but also Britian's ships begain to start sinking.

    He had enlisted in the Army on August 14th, 1917. He had experienced many challenges before choosing the Army. First, he went to the Marines many times actually. That was his first rejection because of not only his age but also his weight. Then he tried the Navy but he also had no luck. He then decided to go with the Army.

    Frank had sailed from Hoboken, New Jersey, via Halifax, and Nova Scotia, in December of 1917. He boarded the HMS Carpathia, with some officers, and crew of who made the rescue of the White Star Liner Titanic. They were aboard the same time as him. He says that they didnt want to talk about that resuce.

    Frank finally got an assignment to escort an officer to France. In France, he had many assignments to escort prisoners of war with the company. Which he basically returned prisoners back to Germany.

    When he was in Egland he volunteered as an ambulance driver. He heard that it was the easiest way to get to France. He tried very hard to get to France so he went to go ask his Officer. When he asked his Officer if he could go to France he said to him that, he too wanted to go to France but they need to stay where they were told.

    World war one ended on 11/11/1918, Germany had signed an agreement for peace and no more fighting. this agreement was presented by Britain and France. Germany and its allies had seen it was not possible to win the war. The reason behind this was because the U.S. had ljoined the war and Germany was not strong enough to Continue.

    He later returned home 2 years later after working with the AEF (American Expeditionary Force). They returned on the USS Pocahontas. He then went to see his parents and go to school.
