    Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria
    On 28 June 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, heir presumptive to the Austro-Hungarian throne, and his wife, Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg, were shot dead in Sarajevo, by Gavrilo Princip, one of a group of six Bosnian Serb assassins coordinated by Danilo Ilić. The political objective of the assassination was to break off Austria-Hungary's south-Slav provinces so they could be combined into a Greater Serbia or a Yugoslavia. This would be the main cause of WW1.

    The French and British join forces to try and invade the Ottoman capital in hopes of capturing it to secure a safe sea route to Russia. The Allies failed at their attempt and manycasualties were suffered on both sides.
  • Battle of Verdun

    It was fought between the German and French armies, from 21 February to 18 December 1916, on hilly terrain north of the city of Verdun-sur-Meuse in north-eastern France. It ended with a French tactical victory.

    The battle saw the British Expeditionary Force and the French Army mount a joint offensive against the German Army, which had occupied a fairly large part of the north of France since its invasion of the country in August 1914.

    The Battle of Megiddo was the final Allied offensive of the Sinai and Palestine Campaign of the First World War. After forces of the Arab Revolt attacked the Ottoman lines of communication, distracting the Ottomans, British and Indian infantry divisions attacked and broke through the Ottoman defensive lines in the sector adjacent to the coast in the set-piece Battle of Sharon.

    The Paris Peace Conference was the meeting of the Allied victors following the end of World War I to set the peace terms for the defeated Central Powers following the armistices of 1918. It took place in Paris in 1919 and involved diplomats from more than 32 countries and nationalities. Germany got all the blame.
