After the death of his father he was the next in line to rule the Seljuk Turks. He gained many refugee fighters at this time becasue they were fleeing from the Mongols. With this the Ottoman empire laid down it's foundation. -

Osman announces his independence from the Seljuk Turks. He moved towards Anatolia and was able to gain power while the Byzantine Empire declined. -

Osman I has built his military up large enough to take on the Byzantine Empire. He battled at Nicaea and won. He expanded his lands to northern Anatolia. -

Osman Dies
Died at the age of 68 from an unknown illness in Bursa. This was a very long life at this time. -

Took Bursa
Shortly after Osman I died his son Orkhan became the ruler and went on to take the city of Bursa from the Byzantine Empire. This is the city that Osman I died in.
