    Japan Invades China and starts to take over the Pacific
    Beginning in the 1930s, Japan aggressively expanded the territories under its influence, taking over parts of China, invading territories claimed by the Soviet Union, and fighting across the Pacific during World War II. In 1937, Japan invaded China which would become known as the Second Sino-Japanese War, which after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 would merge into the greater conflict of World War II as a major front of what is broadly known as the Pacific War.

The battle for Poland only lasted about a month before a Nazi victory, but the invasion plunged the world into a war that would continue for almost six years and claim the lives of tens of millions of people.

    On July 10, 1940, the Germans begin the first in a long series of bombing raids against Great Britain, as the Battle of Britain, which will last three and a half months. After the occupation of France by Germany, Britain knew it was only a matter of time before the Axis power turned its sights across the Channel. And on July 10, 120 German bombers and fighters struck a British shipping convoy in that very Channel, while 70 more bombers attacked dockyard installations in South Wales.

    After the surprise attack by the Japanese on Pearl Harbor, the United States planned a counterattack on the Japanese called Doolittle's Raid, also called Tokyo Raid.This was a surprise air attack on Tokyo, Japan on April 18, 1942. A special unit of USAAF B-25 Mitchell bombers, far larger than naval aircraft, was trained under Colonel James Doolittle to take off from the carrier USS Hornet. They dropped their bombs on Japan and flew onto land controlled by Pro-Allied Chinese Nationalists.
