  • Japan Invades Manchuria

    This was the start of the Japanese aggression against Japan and Indochina. Japan wanted an "economic domination" so that they could solve their economic problems with expansion. It was important to U.S history because it greatly helped Japan resolve their economic problems from the Great Depression.
  • Munich Pact

    The pact gave Hitler the chance to take land in exchange for him not to seek any territory after the concession. In less than 6 months, Hitler broke the pact, continuing to take land which ultimately ended the policy of appeasement. It was important to U.S history because it ended up ending the European policy of appeasement.
  • Kristallnacht

    Referred to as "night of broken glass". It consisted of Nazis torching synagogues, vandalizing Jewish homes, schools, etc, and killing close to 100 Jews. It was important in U.S history because it showed how Nazis treated Jewish people in Germany.
  • Neutrality Acts of 1939

    The Neutrality Acts prevented the U.S. from becoming involved in the war so the U.S could maintain isolationism. The acts also prevented the sale of arms and lending any money. It was important to U.S. history because it prevented the U.S from becoming involved in the war so that they could maintain the peace.
  • Germany Invades Poland

    Led to France and Britain declaring war on Germany. The strategy of Blitzkrieg was used by Germany to overwhelm France and Britain by invading France quickly and launching air raids on Britain. It was important to U.S history because it led to a war between France, Britain, and Germany.
  • Atlantic Charter & Atlantic Conference

    The Atlantic Charter and Atlantic Conference endorsed self-determination and security. It showed FDR's commitment to wanting to end Japanese snd German aggression. It was important to U.S. history because it helped to develop the United Nations later on.
  • Exec Order 8022

    The executive order was put into place to prohibit ethnic and racial discrimination in the defense industry. It was important to U.S. history because it eliminated racial discrimination in the defense industry which was a big deal ending discrimination in government.
  • Attack on Pearl Harbor

    Referred to as "a date that will live in infamy." The Japanese saw the U.S. fleet as a threat to their growing empire which prompted them to surprisingly attack the Pearl Harbor Naval Base. As a result, 2400 Americans were killed, 1300 were wounded, and 19 ships were damaged. It was important to U.S. history because it was the sole reason for the US becoming involved in the war.
  • Exec Order 9066

    It resulted in many Americans of Japanese descent being put in camps because Americans feared that there would be another attack like Pearl Harbor. it was important to U.S. history because it showed how American fears could result in people being discriminated against because they feared another attack would happen.
  • Battle of Midway

    The battle of Midway stopped the Japanese from advancing and instead put them on defense. It was important to U.S. history because the U.S was able to launch air attacks that would prepare for an invasion.
  • Operation Torch

    Operation Torch was the Invasion of North Africa. It was to free the Mediterranean Sea from German control and protect oil fields in the Middle East. It was important to U.S. history because it resulted in German not having control of the sea anymore.
  • D-Day (Invasion of Normandy)

    The Invasion of Normandy provided the long-awaited western front. Germany became engaged on 3 fronts. It was important to U.S. history because it gave Germany 3 fronts which were the Soviet Union, Italy, and France.
  • Battle of the Bulge

    It was the last german offense and the beginning for the Nazis. The battle led to the post-war division of Berlin and Germany and cold war tension increased. It was important to U.S history because it led to even more tension surrounding the war and divided Berlin and Germany.
  • Korematsu v. United States

    Korematsu refused to live in the camps because of executive order 9066 which resulted in him taking his case to court saying that moving from his home violated his rights. He lost the court case as the supreme court saw internment as constitutional. It was important to U.S. history because it showed that the supreme court did whatever they thought was constitutional at the time regardless of how it made other people feel.
  • Yalta Conference

    consisted of Churchill, FDR, and Stalin. They met to discuss future plans for post-war and plans to defeat Europe. It was important to U.S. history because the conference planned post-war plans.
  • Bombing of Hiroshima & Nagasaki

    The bombing by President Truman was to prevent the necessity for landing and fighting on the Japanese home islands. Afterward, the U.S. helped rebuild Japan after the war. It was important to U.S. history because the bombing was what ended the war.
  • United Nations created

    An organization that was created to promote international cooperation and maintain order. It was important to U.S. history because it promoted peace and order among the nations.
  • Nuremberg Trials

    The trial in which war criminals were put on trial and charged with crimes against humanity. People on trial often said they were "just following orders." It was important to U.S. history because it set the precedent of people are responsible for their own actions and for future trials on war crimes.
  • Truman Doctrine

    The doctrine pledged to contain communism in Europe. It was applied when the U.S supplied financial aid to Greece and Turkey. It was important to U.S. history because it kept communism contained and prevented it from being spread anywhere else in the world.
  • Marshall Plan

    The U.S wanted to promote economic rebuilding and wanted to prevent the fall of European countries to communism. It was important to U.S. history because it protected European countries so that they wouldn't fall because of communism.
  • Israel established

    The U.S. supported Jewish people with the creation of the state of Israel. It was important to U.S. history because it showed the impact of German war crimes on the conscience of the US and the world.
  • Berlin Airlift

    People in Berlin were supplied with essentials such as food, water, and other supplies by airdrops. It was important to U.S. history because it helped many people during that time.
  • US establishes NATO

    NATO established a military alliance that was aimed at the Soviet Union which then resulted in the Soviet Union establishing the Warsaw Pact which was a military alliance against NATO. It is important to U.S. History because NATO wanted to promote peace which is why they targeted the Soviet Union.
  • Soviet Union tests Atomic Bomb

    Testing of the Atomic Bomb led the U.S to speed up the development of the hydrogen bomb. It was the start of a nuclear arms race against the US and Soviet Union. It was important to U.S history because it marked the start of an arms race which ultimately increased cold war fears.
  • Korean Conflict

    North Korea invaded South Korea which resulted in the United Nations to support police action to defend South Korea. It was important to U.S. history because the 38th parallel was a significant thing during the Korean conflict and it impacted many people in North and South Korea.
  • Eisenhower Doctrine

    The doctrine extended containment to the Middle East. it was important to U.S. History it made sure that communism didn't spread throughout the middle east.
  • Soviet Union launches Sputnik

    As a result of Sputnik being launched, the NDEA was established. The launch of Sputnik also contributed to the second round of the Red Scare. It was important to U.S. History because it was the start of the space race.
  • National Defense Education Act

    The NDEA promoted science and math skills, counteracted the fear of consumerism, and made Americans less competitive. It was important to U.S. history because that is the reason why we learn math and science skills today.
  • Rise of the Berlin Wall

    The Berlin Wall was a symbol of the Cold War. It separated East and West Germany so that people couldn't escape to freedom. It was important to U.S. History because of it being a symbol of the Cold War and it started the divide in Germany.
  • Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan

    The Soviets invaded Afghanistan to prop friendly government. It was important to U.S. History because it resulted in the soviets withdrawing from the invasion of Afghanistan.
  • Fall of Berlin Wall

    The fall of the Berlin Wall was considered the end of the Cold War. It was important to U.S. History because the fall of the berlin wall marked the end of the divide in Germany and the cold war.
