    WW1 had many causes. Some of the causes were that the alliances fought against each other to balance out the power in Europe. The Assasination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was caused it also. Countries in Europe also wanted to regain their lost territories also.

    Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated on June 28, 1914. This was a key factor for WW1 starting. The assassination of Franz Ferdinand made Austria-Hungary declare war on Serbia. A Serbian group called The Black Hand assassinated Franz Ferdinand.

    The British intercepted the Zimmerman Telegram from Germany. The telegram was for Mexico. The telegram said that Mexico could have their old American territories back if they were to help Germany in the war. This made America angry and made America join the war.

    The U.S only spent only seven and a half months in actual combat. That’s a short amount of time compared to how long the war actually was. 116,000 American men died and 204,000 American men were wounded. The U.S. helped end the war, which is good.

    It was 65 million soldiers that were mobilized during WW1. 8 million of those soldiers died. Chemical Warfare and Trench Warfare were the reasons that a lot of soldiers died during WW1. 58,000 British soldiers were lost on the first day of battle at the Battle of the Somme.

    WW1 had many names. It was called The Great War, The War of Nations, etc. I do not know why WW1 has many names. The names are cool to me.
