    During WWI Aboriginal People, Black Canadians, and Asian Canadians had no equality rights. They would mistreat them and treat them differently. This was due to their race, nationality or ethnic origin. German and Ukraine Canadians lost their democratic rights. They weren’t allowed to vote and they believed they were "enemy aliens."

    The Second Battle of Ypres begins. It is during this battle that the Germans first use poison gas. This battle cost 6000 Canadian lives and proved that Canadian troops could do the job when asked. Also, German advance was stopped.

    Billy Bishop was a hero, he served in WW1 as a pilot. He was very skilled and courageous. He served 27 out of 72 victories. Also, he gave Canada a good reputation and organized the RCAF. The Royal Canadian Air Force ( RCAF ) is the air force of Canada.

    The Battle of the Somme begins. During the Battle of the Somme, tanks are first introduced into battle. It was a terrible bloodbath for both sides. Also, 60000 causalities were on the first day.

    This battle gave new hope to allies and a turning point in Canada’s history. This is also the first time Canadians fought together for the first time. Canada loses 10,000 soldiers in this battle and Vimy Ridge is later chosen as the site of Canada's National Memorial.

    Right to vote: British subjects over the age of 21 to vote if they were the wife, mother, sister or daughter of a man serving overseas and widows of members of the armed force. Lost vote: Pacifists people who opposed war. They took away from "enemy aliens" they believed that members of these groups would vote against the party.

    Conscription: creation of a list of people who must go to war. It was an issue that bitterly divided Canada. It started in WWI because fewer people were volunteering to serve in the army. These were English speaking Canadians and later French. A letter was reported to kids from 16 years and older. Eventually, this caused violent protests and riots.

    On Nov 11/1918 Canadians changed, they were not willing to allow Britain to speak for them. Canada had earned the right to send independent delegates to the negotiating table. Canadians had gained its independent ever since.

    WWI changes Canada: Farmers
    Farmers had high demand which led to high prices. As a result, demand was high and famers earned good income. After the war, prices got lower and this meant lower income for farmers. Eventually, farmers struggled to get by.
