    Archduke Franz Ferindand was a heir to the the Austro Hungarian throne. He visited Sarajevo, on June of 1914. When he was visiting, he was shot and killed by Gavrilo Princip. Very Sad.

    FIRST BATTLE OF THE MARNE

    German troops poured into Belgium and France on August 3, 1914. The underdogs were the small Belgian army. However, the underdogs put up a fight, a rather strong resistance. Thus giving the French and British time to rush troops into the battle. The german invasion forced the Allies back to the marne river in France. That September, the Allies pushed the German lines back some 40 miles. And that was called the First battle of the marne.

    "On May 7th 1915, a U-boat was patrolling off the irish coast torpedoed another British passeneger linear, the Lusitania." What made this really important was that it had killed 128 Americans.

    In February 1916 the Germans launched a huge offensive designed to "bleed the french army white" by causing unsustainable casualitles. The Germans targeted the fortified French city of Verdum because they knew the French would feel compelled to defend it. The battle was a 21 hour artillery barrage in which more than 1 million people died.

    The Battle of Verdun was fought from 21 February 18, to December 1916 during the First WW1 on the Western Front between the German and French armies, on hills north of Verdun.

    The death of the French passenger vessel, Sussex. This was the final straw. President Wilson had threatened Germany that if they did not chill, President wilson will cut the diplomatic ties. The Germans responded with the Sussex pledge, a renewal of an earlier promise not to sink liners without warning or without ensuring the passengers safety.

    Although this was only a 4 month long battle, more than 1 million people died. At Verdum, the longest battle of the war, the two sides suffered one million casulties. It can be argued as one of the most deadliest wars (death wise).

    American newspaper published an intercepted cable from German foreign secretary Aruther Zimmermann to the German minister in Mexico. The cable offered German support to help Mexico 'reconcquer the lost territory in New Mexico, Texas, and Arizona'"
