The Anzacs' first major battle in Europe was near a town called Fromelles. They had to attack the 3rd line of the Germans trenches. In the 27th hour after the Australians first attacked the Germans trenches 5,533 Anzacs have been kkilled or wounded. This is twice as many casualties as the landing at Gallipoli.

On the 1st of July 1916, was the battle of the Somme. The attack was launched upon 30 meter front, from north of the Somme river between Arras and Albert and until the 18th of November.

On the night of the 11th of April 1917, the Australiaana attacked the Germans in Bullecourt. The Anzacs had no artillery and the tanks that was supposed to break through the wire bogged down in the snow covered ground. The Anzacs fought their way into the German trenches and they were the first soldiers to break through the Hindenburg line.

On the 21st of March 1918, the Australian troops were called in to save some key ports. This was called the Battle Of Villers-Bretonneux.

In May 1918, the Anzacs were commanded by an Australian, John Monash. In his first battle at the place called LeHamel, his men had taken 1,500 prisoners, caused 2,000 German casualties and captured nearly 180 machine guns.

In June 1918, Monah's best attack took place at Mont St Quentin where the Anzacs captured 2,500 prisoners. Victoria crosses were awarded 7 Anzacs for this.
