1914 an Airedale terrier named Jim was trained to look out for Zeppelines. Over a million horses were used in the war used to carry guns and other. British families would give their dogs away to the army to be used as messenger dogs. Even pigeons were used to delivery messages. After the Germans learned about he messenger pigeons, they started to train hawks to kill pigeons. -

Napkins were mainly used as field bandages to help soak up blood from the wounded soldiers. 1920 was when Kotex started advertising them as a pad making it easy for women to not have to reuse rags. -
Battle of Mons
Britain declared war against France. Great Britain was out numbered with only 75,000 soldiers and Germany having 150,000. despite the advantage of a larger army Germany has, they struggled to over power Great Britain. Germany did end up winning this battle. -
Tanks
In 1915 some British Armed Forces came together to discuss some new technology developments. They came up with the idea of using a armed using vehicle that can be used to break trench warfare. Thus the tank was born. 1 tank takes 8 people to operate, 1 commander, 4 gunners, and 2 people to help shift the gun. -
Chemical Warfare
This was introduced around the 1916´s when the Germans were using poison gas as a surprise attack in Flanders, Belgium. Later they developed gas cylinders to be able to launch poison gas bombs. It wasn´t until the 1918´s when everyone got involved with chemical warfare. -
Battle of Verdun
It was known as the longest battle in modern history. Germany plan was to gain the upper hand on France. Erich Von Falkenhayn the Chief of General staff was leading Germany into battle. The battle ended on December 15 because of winter conditions leaving Germany´s plan to fail. France lost 377,000 and Germany lost 330,000 men. -
The Battle of Cambrai
The Battle of Cambrai began on November all the way through December. Britain was trying to find a area to help succeed to gain an advantage. it was the first battle used with tanks. -
Boy and Girl Scouts
The boy and girl scouts help out a lot during the war providing medical attention to wounded soldiers.They would knit scarves and gloves during the winter for the soldiers. The Boy Scouts also help protect different roads and railways. -
The Big Explosion
In Messine Belgium, there were over 900,000 lbs of mines underground. They all ended up detonating at the same time to destroy Germany´s first line of defensive. The Explosion was heard from France all the way to Great Britain. -
Orders from Nash
The First Naval District sent orders to Lucius Nash to depart him from the duty of Officer Enrollment to be part of the USS Roanoke Commanding Officer. This will now be his new unit, he will continue his time there. Health, service, and payment account. -
A letter to the parents
Time is going by fast in his time of being with the USS Roanoke unit.Lucius has been traveling a lot lately seeing all types of different people. Going into different cities seeing different sights. -

Lucius and his squad were getting congratulation for completing today´s task. Each of his men are being honored for this task. After setting ashore they had a mining situation. Lucius is part of the USS Roanoke unit being transferred from the USS Salem unit. -
One of Many: Letter to My Parents
Its been 7 months since he´s been transferred to the Roanoke regiment. Being on the go constantly is taking a tole on Lucius. That following Sunday they had to move over 600 tons of coal for transport. On of his old friends from back home Clyde is enlisting into joining the military. -
Old friends Reunite
This letter was given to an old friend he met back in New York back when being stationed there. Lucius Trip hasn´t been very eventful, the weather around has not been nice to anyone. Over 75% of his crew dealing with sickness. Being out of the country most of the time Lucius has to get use to the different type of foreign currency.
