Paul and his friends have to go back to the front. Paul and the other soldiers have to lay out barbed wire.

The soldiers in Paul's group get ambushed and have to fight the other soldiers. Hemmerich, Pauls old teacher, hides in a trench and won't budge. Paul realizes that Hemmerich is a coward.

Germans attacked the French at Verdun. The battle lasted 9 months and there were almost a million casualties total. There is no real winner to the battle.

Was a German and British ship (navy) battle and Germany retreats.

Lasts five months. 60,000 British soldiers were killed/seriously wounded on the first day.

Paul is given a two week leave to go home and three extra days for the travel time. Paul feels strange going home, not being able to know what happens to his friends and not knowing if he will be able to fit in at home. He get there to find his mother sick. By the end of his vacation he finds he doesn't really want to leave.

The British soldiers first use tanks in the Battle of Somme, but they aren't very useful because of the environment around them. The tanks often roll over in the mud crushing soldiers.

Lloyd Geroge persuades the cabinet to appoint the French General Nivelle as Sumpreme War Commander.

Britain intercepts the Zimmerman telogram and sends it to the U.S. When deciphered it is Germany sending a message to Mexico. They want Mexicans to attack the U.S and keep the U.S busy.

Paul goes out on a mission into No Man's Land and ends up getting lost on the way back. He hides in a trench while shots are going off all around. A french soldier enters the trench and Paul has to kill the soldier. After killing the soldier, Paul becomes very distressed and disturbed by what he has done and loses it. He thinks about the soldier's family and what he has done. After a while he calms down and finds his way back.

The United States of America enter the war on the Allies side and start sending soldiers over to Europe.

Lenin becomes dictator and Tsar Nicholas II abdicates.

The Russians sign an armistice with Germany. The terms of the armistice were very harsh.

Paul and his friend Kropp are wounded in battle and are put on a train to go home. On the way Kropp gets worse and has to get dropped off. Paul fakes a fever so he can go with Kropp, promising Kropp he wouldn't leave him. Paul goes through surgery and recovers while Kropp has to have his leg amputated.

Kat is wounded in the battle and Paul tries to carry him to safety. On the way there a piece of shrapnel hits Kat on the head and Kat dies. This is a terrible blow to Paul because Kat was one of Paul's last friends alive, and now he is dead.

The Royall flying corps and the Royal Naval Air Service were merged to form the Royal Air Force.

The British general is ordered to attack the German sector at Amiens. The Allies broke through the German defenses.

After fighting in the war for four years Paul dies. He is the last of his class mates to die. It happened so fast and was so quiet that the soldiers called it all quiet on the western front.

The allies take almost all of German occupied France and part of Belgium.

The allies had pushed the Turkish and the Turks asked for an armistice.

By the beginning of November the allies pushed the Germans back beyond the Hinndenberg line.

At 11 a.m. in the French town of Redonthes the Armistice was signed bringing the war to an end.

The Treaty of Versailles was drafted and signed. This was part of the reason for World War II because of the harsh terms taken against Germany.
