On June 28th 1914 Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife Sophie were shot dead. The assassination of the pair caused tension between Austria and Serbia. This event is considered what started the First World War.

The Balkans Campaign was fought between the central powers. On one side Austria, Hungary, Bulgaria and the Germany. On the other side was France, Montenegro, Russia, Serbia and the United Kingdom.

Initially aeroplanes were used as spotters, but after gun fights began on the planes they thought of a better idea so that pilots wouldn't have to carry guns with them. They began attatching guns to the front of the aeroplanes. After a few failed attempts at shooting with these guns (the end result was usually the gun destroying the propelor completely) they timed the motor so that the bullets would pass through the propelor and still hit the target.

The Gallipoli Campaign, also known as the Battle of Gallipoli, took place on the Gallipoli peninsula. Anzac Day (April 25th) is a signifigant day as it is to show commemeration for all the Australian and New Zealand casualties and veterans.

Both sides agreed to stop fighting. Unfortunately this Armistice came with a few guidelines which are still now considered unfair. Germany had to take the blame for the war, they had to surrender most of their military power and some of their land.
