    In 1949 Wilson Sporting Goods agreed to sponsor the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA). Helen Dettweiler was the 3rd women to work for a golf club manufacturer. She worked for Wilson Sporting Goods. She also the first woman to designed and build a 9-hole golf course.

    Title IX is acuatlly a portion of The Education Amendment of 1972. It is best known for the impact it made in non-professional sports (high school and collegiate). This also boosted women sports in the US. This prohibited discrimmination of gender in federal funded schools.

    Billie Jean King
    Billie Jean King defeated Bobby Riggs. This was known as "The Battle of the Sexes". Bobby Riggs was a 55 year old former 1939 Wimbledon champion who challenged BJK often then she finally accepted. Billie Jean started a women's sport magazine and women's sport foundation. She was defintely a spark in the women's professional sports.

    In 1997 The inaugural Women's National Basketball Association season begins on June 21. The inaugural season hosted 50 million viewers and also 3 major networks. They initially started with 8teams and are now currently at 16 teams. As of 2002 the WNBA will host 256 regular season games.

    In 2006 Pat Summitt hit her 900th win as women's basketball coach. Her record as a coach for Tennessee 900-172. She passed Texas coach Jody Conradt and Texas Tech coach Bobby Knight. her current record is 1000-187
