susan b anthony
An influential woman in the movement, Susan B. Anthony tries to vote for Ulysses S. Grant. She is arrested and her claim that the 14th amendment protected her failed. It was further proof of the discrimination against women. She played a pivotal role in women's rights. -
Minor V. Happersett
a United States Supreme Court case in which the Court held that, while women are no fewer citizens than men are, citizenship does not confer a right to vote, and therefore state laws barring women from voting are constitutionally valid. It was a major setback for women. -
