    Birth

    Event 1- William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warkshire, England in 1564. He is son of John and Mary Shakespeare. Three days later William was baptized in the Holy Trinity Church. This event is significant because William Shakespeare will become one of the greatest poets, playwrights, and actors in history (Byers 142).

    Rio de Janeiro

    Event 2- Rio de Janeiro was founded in 1565 and is now a major city and state in Brazil. This city has a population of over 6 million and is known for its beaches. This event is important because Rio de Janeiro became a very popular tourist attraction, and a major state in Brazil (Grun 251).

    Grammar School

    Event 3- William Shakespeare attended Kings New School at the age of 7 ("William Shakespeare Biography"). At school he studied Latin grammar, lituature, rhetoric, and logic. William left in 1577 to help his dad with work. This event is significant because William Shakespeare used his knowledge from school to become a successful poet (Magill 1692-1693).

    Sir Francis Drake

    Event 4- Sir Francis Drake first saw the Pacific Ocean in 1573. The area of this ocean is 63.78 million sq miles and has an average depth of 14,042'. This event is important because the founding of the Pacific Ocean drasticallly changed maps and is the largest ocean on the earth (Grun 253).

    Catacombs of Rome

    Event 5- The Catacombs of Rome were accidently discovered in 1578 by Antonio Bosio. These catacombs were contolled by Chritians and used to bury thier dead. This event is important because the major discovery of these catacombs gave us information about ancient Rome (Grun 257).
  • Marriage

    Event 6- William Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway in 1582. William was 18, Anne 26. On May 26, 1583 they had a daughter Susanna, and two years later twins, Hamnet and Judith. This event is significant because this would be the start of Shakespeare's family ("William Shakespeare").
  • Forks at French Court

    Event 7- Forks were very uncommon before the use of them in the French Court by Catherine de' Medici. From then on the popularity of forks grew. This event is important because the fork is a very common and important untensil today (Grun 261).
  • First Play

    Event 8- William Shakespeare wrote his first play, Henry VI, part one, in 1590. This play was first performed March 3, 1592. This event is significant because it was the begininng of Shakespeares career ("William Shakespeare Biography").
  • Plague

    Event 9- The plague in London was the most dreaded disease during Shakespeares life. This disease traveled by fleas in rats fur and spread rapidly. This event is important because the plague killed more than 15,000 people (Grun 263).
  • Poetry

    Event 10- William Shakespeare wrote poetry because of closed theaters due to the plague. During 1593-1594 Shakespeare wrote his first poem Venus and Adonis and also his 154 Sonnets. This event is significant because Shakespeare is very well known for his poetry (Byers 143).
  • Lord Chamberlains Men

    Event 11- William Shakespeare became a writer for Lord Chamberlains Men in 1594. Lord Chamberlains Men was one of the leading companies of actors during Shakespeare's time. This event is significant because through this program many of Shakespeare's best plays were performed (Byers 143).
  • Romeo and Juliet

    Event 12- Romeo and Juliet is Shakespeares most known tradegy. This play was first performed at the Theatre where Lord Chamberlains Men originally performed. This event is significant because much of Shakespeares fame came from this play (Byers 143).
  • Globe Theater

    Event 13- In 1599 the Globe Theater was constructed. The theater held many plays until burned down in 1613 due to a theatrical cannon but reconstructed a year later. This event is signifigant because Shakespeare performed many of his very successful plays in this theater such as Julius Caesar (Magill 1693).
  • Jamestown

    Event 14- Jamestown was founded in 1607 by the London Company. This colony is located in modern day Virginia. This event is important because Jamestown was the first permanment English settlement in the United States (Grun 271).
  • Death

    Event 15- William Shakespeare died from unknown causes April 23, 1616 at the age of 52. William died in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warkshire, England. He was buried in the Holy Trinity Church. This event is significant because William Shakespeare will become very popular in poetry, playwrights, and acting. Also, Shakespeare died on the same day and place he was born which is very unusual (Magill 1689 and 1696).
  • First Folio

    Event 16- John Heminage and Henry Condell gathered Shakespeares work 7 years after his death and published it into the First Folio. The First Folio is 630 pages and is a collection of Shakespeare's comedies, tradegies, and poetry. It also includes 36 plays such as Macbeth and Julius Caesar. This event is significant because without the Folios much of Shakespeares work may have never been discovered ("William Shakespeare").
