    Taft was one of six children his parents were Louisa Maria Torrey (mother) and Alphonso Taft (father). Many of Taft's ancestors went into law. his father had served under Ulysses S. Grant as a former Secretary of war and attorney general.

    Taft's education started in a private school like his father went to, he then attended Yale collage and there he joined the now secret society Skull and Bones which his father co-founded in 1832 he graduated from Yale in 1878. from then he didn't follow the tradition he went to the University of Cincinnati College of Law and he was admitted into the Ohio Stated Bar Association in 1880.
