William Holding was born in St. Columb Minor, Cornwall, England. He was raised in 14th century house next door to a graveyard.

After being a brat/bully as a youth, he went to Brasenose College in Oxford. He first studied science for his father's benefit but later switched to study literature.

After graduating college with a BA in English and Education, he started teaching English and Philosophy at Wordsworth School in Salisbury. By this time he was a writer, actor, and producer for small theatres.

A year before graduating college he published his first work called 'Poems.' Although his first work was greatly overlooked it was only the beginning.

After teaching for a few years, and getting married to Ann, war was in full spring so he decided to join the Royal Navy.

After these ended he went back to teaching and writing. Then he published his most well known book called 'Lord of the Flies' which was influenced by his rowdy male students.
