California Gold Rush
There were about 85,000 people looking for $2 billion dollars worth of gold. There were several boomtowns thatarose out of the dust, such as Brandy City, Bodie, North Bloomfield. Thanks to this, California took on a symbol of new beginning and became well-known in America. -
Comstock Lode Silver Rush
This discovery of silver was found under the current state of Nevada in 1859. Around 17,000 people swarmed to the area once this silver was discovered. The price of shares shot up to $1500 by the end of the year! Because of this, the city of Virginia City, Nevada was formed! This rush yielded about $300 million in silver. -
Alaska Gold Rush
10,000 people came and mined a total of $250 milliion in gold. Boometowns Dawson City and Yukon were established. Dawson City became a ghost town. -
Black Hills Gold Rush
Took place in the Sioux Indians' territory of the Dakotas. Boomtowns Hills City, Pactola, and Sheridan were established during this time of a few thousand citizens rushing in. $1.5 million was found in gold. The Indians weren't very happy about people invading their territory, so it created more animosity between them. -
Telluride Gold Rush
During this gold rush, around 5,000 people flocked to the area. There was a boomtown created that was called Cripple Creek. There was about 10 million ounces of gold discovered! -
Aspen Silver Rush
There were 1500 residents in the Colorado town by 1882. The peak population was 10,000-16,000. The boomtown was created and named Aspen. It eventually produced 1/16th of the world's silver. A tramway is built in the Aspen mountains. The Sherman Silver Act is passed, assuring a continuing market for silver. -
Klondike Gold Rush
Around 30,000 people rushed in and created boomtowns Nome, Skagway, and Dyea. There, they mined over $1 million in gold. This increased awareness of Alaska and the Northern fronteir like Canada.
