Missouri Compromise
This allowed slavery to be balanced between the free and the slave states in the senate. This banned slavery above 36 and 30 degress N. This maintained the balance of slavery in the United States. -
Wilmont Proviso
This specified that slavery should be prohibited in any lands that might be allinded from Mexico. Kept the options of slavery open to states. -
Fugitive Slave Law
This required ALL citizens to help catch any runaway slaves. This made any slave hloders step up their efforts and their acts to help out. This law got the North very angry. -
Compromise of 1850
President Taylor and other fellow peolpe in congress had objected the plan. It had been passed in August and September in seprate bills. This compromise was another temporary solution. -
Uncle Tom's Caabin
The book written by Harriet Beecher Stowe, had stunned many people with her description of a slavery. This was the North's first chance to get a feel of what slavery was all like done in he south. This writng had got the minds thinking of the North and this made them want to end slavery evem more. -
Bleeding Kansas
In this event, many slavery men were invading uses violence to attack the town of Lawerence. John Brown felt that he was the one that needed to end slavery. Kansas then became a free state. -
Kansas Nebraska Act
Stephen Douglas wanted to make a plan for the nation to expand the North and the South. This would allow slavery in more places. -
Dred Scott Decison
This was a case that made or tried to free Dred Scott. The case didn't free him but later Taylor Blow had freed him. They felt that slaves were not citizens and citizens were the only ones who could sue. -
Lincoln Douglas Debates
They both battled in a series of debates in Illinois for a spot in the senate. Their main topic was slavery. South had a fear of Lincoln they also didn't like him. -
John Brown's Raid
John Brown had established a base in Blue Ridge Mountains this would assit runaway slaves and launch attacks on slave holders. Attack harpers, Virginia to help slaves(hostage). -
The South Secedes
South Carolina held a special convention and voted to seccede. In 1861, Texas, Louisana, Alabama, Florida, and Missippi all secded. They tried to compromise. -
Election of 1860 and Lincoln Elected
Lincoln was elected eventhough his name wasn't on the ballot in some of the southern states.This had pulled the soth to movve toward the decison to break away.
